The Expect Success Philosophy
by Pete McGourty

My philosophy can best be summed up by the name and motto of my company: Expect Success—and the pathway is to “envision your dream, conceive the strategy and pursue the goal!

So let’s begin with the “Expect Success.” First of all, this is a statement of fact, and not only that, but a command. And it is candidly and respectfully directed at each and every one of my clients.

In other words, if you want to work with me, the first requirement is that you must expect success! And you must expect it not from me only, but from us working together as a team and tapping into all the resources available to us, such as your personal skills and weaknesses, my knowledge base and experience from working with thousands of individuals over the past 28 years.

Now to expand the motto of Expect Success:

Envision the Dream – Call me old school, but I firmly believe that each one of us comes into this world with a mission. It is both specific and at the same time fluid and flexible. Our first great challenge in life is to discover this life purpose, which is absolutely unique—and which spans both personal and career paths.

How does one discover this personal life plan? I believe that it is hidden in the depths of each human heart, and it is waiting anxiously to be unveiled—but it often requires the assistance of an experienced impartial guide to navigate toward the discovery of this personal treasure. This is where I come in as a life coach.

Conceive the Strategy – The second part of the motto is to “conceive the strategy.” Once you have discovered your purpose in your heart, you must take that nucleus to your mind where you then undertake the labor of conceiving of a plan by which your purpose will be fulfilled. This plan requires certain steps and acts as a blueprint which will guide you in the construction of this dream. Te analogy of building a house is apt to illustrate. How a person goes about building a home. First you must conceive of the floor plan, and then you must make other decisions concerning what the finished product will look like. The process is very similar in designing a plan to implement your life dream; once again, it is usually indispensible to a have a guide in designing such a plan.

Pursue the Goal

– The third and final phase of the implementation in to “pursue the goal.” Now we have a plan or blueprint to guide the process. All that remains is to begin the implementation of the plan. And this is precisely where so many people don’t even get off the ground! For a myriad of reasons, (which really are excuses in disguise), the majority of folks never get out of the blocks. The number one enemy is fear of failure. This fear ends up paralyzing so many people and so they don’t take the first steps to realize their life dreams. So they decide to play it safe and spend their lives in quiet mediocrity rather than reaching for the stars—where our greatest treasure happiness and fulfillment lies!

I believe that life is short and that the only life worth living is one of challenge and excitement which offers the possibility for great success.

In 2002, I left a secure job as an agency counselor with great benefits, paid vacation, ample sick leave, decent 401K (and little opportunity for growth). I left that position to start my own company—Expect Success—and I did this because I myself expected success. I was told that I was embarking upon an enterprise that was highly risky, where only one in 5 succeed, and the other 4 close their doors after only 3-5 years. And I did this with two children under the age of 5 and a stay-at-home wife.

Now 8 years later—after much “blood sweat and tears,” I would never go back. The dream I found in my heart, to own my own company, is today a thriving reality, one which has taken on a life of its own. And while this business offers me triple the salary I had in 2001, that is certainly not why I do it. Expect Success is my baby, mostly in its way of giving back to my brothers and sisters in the human family, offering healing, orientation, and success to individuals, couples and business through the counseling, life coaching, and business coaching.
